Classes are overrr!

Sooo finals are finally doneeee and we are free from school for about a month. Thank goodness. Since finals have ended a lot has been going on with the jackets.A few days ago we had our basketball Christmas party which was a blast as always. We had our white elephant gift exchange and I think Coach Heather wins the funniest gift with the Browns ticket for a game on December 4th! Yesterday we went to the holiday luncheon where we got to eat a delicous meal and sing Christmas carols. I'd like to add that even though they did not announce it, we won the award for being the loudest on the Twelve Days of Christmas. Also today coach told us the winning gpa team!! Which was the Gold Team of course and it just so happens that it is the team I am on. So way to go Gold Team :). Now we get to go home for a few days for Christmas then its back to the hive to get back to work to win the tournament in Florida! Lets go Jackets :)

More Basketball Fun

Hey all! We only have two more weeks left until Christmas break! I can't wait! :) December is going to be a good time. Basketball, team bonding, no school, and Florida! This past month I made it to Cleveland for the first time with one of our other freshman, Jenna Andreas! It was awesome. We went to the art museum, shopping, little italy, rock and roll hall of fame, and saw some local art! It is one of my favorite days I have had at BW so far! Other than my adventurous and exciting life, school is getting challenging yet rewarding. All my classes are going well and I really hope my g.p.a. team doesn't have to cook dinner! Overall, my time at BW is going excellent! I am excited for the rest of the season and can't wait to do big things! :) So long jackets.

DANCING AWAY!

Hey everyone! So finally its almost chrismas break and all of bw will be leaving besides the womens and mens team. My roommate Jen and I already have our christmas tree and lights set up just waiting for santa to leave me my own kinect. Anyways this wednesday we have a home game against Heidelberg College and i'm sure we will all be ready to play hard and have fun. Thats all for now..

AWW JACKETS!

Hey Yellow Jacket followers! The team had a nice weekend to go home for Thanksgiving and spend some time with our families and what is even more exciting is that the OAC season is underway! Very excited to see how our conference plays out. Each team is extremely talented this year and each game will be very competitive and definitely a show to watch. We still have big plans this season and can't wait to prove ourselves to everyone.

Finals are coming up next week and everyone is doing really well in their classes. Cannot wait til Christmas break and do nothing other than what NBA players do... wake up, eat, play ball, work out, eat, sleep. Sounds so thrilling!

See you all Wednesday night (5/7) at home VS Heidelberg. JV game at 530! Wahoo!!

Happy Holidays and God Bless!!

hiii everyone,

The team is all back at BW and in the home stretch of the semester. Being home for thanksgiving was definitely a nice break. I was so glad to get to spend some time with my family and of course eat a lot of good food. Now we only have two weeks left of classes, finals, and then its WINTER BREAK!!! I'm looking forward to spending time with everyone especially since we will be some of the only people left on campus. Last night, the JV team got the W over Walsh. Shout out to the brown squad. Tomorrow, we will be traveling to Pittsburgh looking to get win #4 over Carnegie Mellon.

TURKEYYYYY

Hello everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving =) I just returned back to BW yesterday from our 3 day break, and it was so good to see all of my old friends and spend time with the family! I ate so much I couldn't move for a solid few hours after dinner, so it was a successful turkey day. We are now 3-1! Although it stinks to be sitting out right now, i LOVE watching my team play!!! I enjoyed my first experience going out of town with the team, but I do have mixed feelings about my first mini bus ride though lol. Everyone is working super hard and I cannot wait to see what the rest of the season has in store for us! I am loving my time here at BW with this group of girls and am excited to be spending our Christmas break and rest of the season together!

Almost Turkey Timee!

Hello Everyone!
Just a little update of what has been going on at the hive, we had our tournament in Manchester, Indiana this past weekend. We had a nail biting win against Denision and an unfortunate loss against Manchester in the championship. Needless to say I know EVERYONE thoroughly enjoyed their experience on the mini bus and can not wait until we can ride it again! ;)
On the other side of things it is almost Thanksgiving!! I an very excited to go home and get to see my family and eat some good food. However we have business to take care of first on Tuesday, our game against Case. I know we will all be pumped and ready to go:)

SPEEEEZZYY!

With our first game coming up tomorrow, I just wanted to dedicate one blog to our lone senior this year, Catherine Spisak. Tomorrow will be her last first game ever! Crazy to think about it, but it gives us younger girls more of a reason to play harder. I think I can speak for the whole team when I say this, but we want this season to be the best it can be..not only for each other, but for Catherine because it will be her last. I can't imagine what it will feel like when I encounter my last season, but I know that I would want it to be great. So great is what we will be striving for during Cat's last season. She has put so much time and effort into this program for four years and I hope our accomplishments and success this season will be rewarding enough for her. I know the friendships made and experiences she has had will be satisfying enough for her, but why not give her what she has been working hard for over the past four years. With this being said, we are all super excited for our game tomorrow, but first we must practice and prepare today. We have four games in 8 days, so mentally and physically we must be ready for a fight. Let's go Jackets..I know you have it in you! And let's make this season a GREAT story to tell.

NEVER LET GO ROSEEE

HIIIII everyone!!!!

Sooo it's Saturday, and guess what major event is a mere 3 days away???............................................. The new episode of GLEE!! haha just kidding, it's OUR FIRST GAME!!!!!!! I know I can speak for everyone when I say that it will be very nice to play against someone that is not a member of our team. We have had two scrimmages, but there is really nothing like the atmosphere of a college game. I ahve already had 2 first games and I am just as excited and anxious for this one as I waas when I was a freshman. This weekend has been very busy for me, I went to my very first hockey game last night with Monica Gustin (YJ4L) and tonight I am going to see BW's production of Titanica, which inspired the titel of the blog (I don't actually know anyone named Rose). While there were not as many fights as I was hoping for, the game was really fun, and I'm seriously considering dropping out of college to become a full time crazy hockey fan. I probably would need to actually learn the rules or at least how to ice skate first though. Oh, I almost forgot to write about the ultra-competitive game of charades that we had the night before our Ursuline scrimmage. Myself, Jen, Rachel, Jess C, Pills, Lippy, and a few other not so enthusiastic members of our team acted out movies and tv shows. When I say ultra-competitive, I really man nobody wanting to participate. I had a great idea, and even went to my room to get props (a flying carpet) but Jen guessed Aladdin before I even got to act it out. It really ruined charades for me, thanks Jen. But ummmm I think that about sums it up!! See everyone on Tuesday!!!

Hey everyone!!! We are only days away from our first official game!! :) All the hard work we have been putting in is about to pay off! Our practices have been really intense and everyone's been doing great. We all bust our butts and make each other better every day. Last weekend we had our annual goal setting meeting. Combined with practice we were only at the rec for 7 hours...at least we got fed :) we each shared personal and team goals as well as talked about each other and what we like about one another. My favorite part (besides the yummy food) was making our perspective and vision board. Each of us made a perspective board for our locker with pictures, quotes, or anything that put our lives in perspective and motivated us to work hard everyday. As a team we made a vision board combined with lots of words, quotes, pictures, and anything that motivated us as a team to get better and work hard throughout the season. Our team board looks awesome and I really do believe it will help motivate us :) The team has been getting along great..which is a good thing because now that games are beginning we are going to be together allllllll the time :))) haha we really all do have so much fun together and I look forward to all the memories we will be making this season :) remember if you can't make it to our first game to listen to us on 88.3...the sting ;)

Happy Halloween Everyone (:

Hope everyone is enjoying Halloween today but not eating too much candy! Over the weekend the team dressed up for Halloween. There was Miss America, Black Swan, a nurse, a yellow jacket, a cheerleader, Captain America, an angel, and many more different custumes. I love hanging out with the team because we always have so much fun and get along great! I am extremely excited that the season has started because I feel that we are becoming more of a family, and I hope that carries onto the court. The Intrasquad scrimmage was a success, and being on the Brown squad, getting a win for Coach K was awesome! Everyone played great, and it shows how far we have come over the last two weeks. We have a scrimmage coming up on Wednesday against Tiffin; we hope to see everyone there :)

Tonight was the pep rally for winter sports! Four athletes from each sport team got a chance to participate in a three-point contest, while the girls and boys basketball team rebounded. We did a great job rebounding for sure! Also, during the fall season, there was a contest to see what teams showed up to the most sporting events and had the most spirit, and because we are so awesome the girl’s basketball team won! For winning, we got a nice long sleeve shirt as a prize!

Well, because Shari Mangas jinxed us, we are getting up nice and early again tomorrow for a morning practice, so it’s off to bed! See you on the court in seven hours yellow jackets (:

BROWNTOWN

Browtown came up with the big W this weekend!!! :D Gave coach K his first career Intrasquad scrimmage win! Everyone looked amazing this Friday and as a result we were able to have this Saturday and Sunday off. Which was extra-awesome because a lot of us got the chance to go and visit friends and really enjoy the college Halloween experience. Being a broke college child, I was the reincarnation of high school Catherine Spisak for Halloween! I wore Catherine's actual high school cheerleading uniform. OVerall, it was a great night and we had a ton of fun. My favorite outfit was definitely Jess Carpenter's! She was Miss America. It was simple, yet realllllly good! And shout out to Jen and Rachel for making their own costumes instead of buying them. They were a very impressive Captain America and Thor. Unfortunately nobody really knew what Thor was supposed to look like but still, it was excellently executed. Currently, some of the frosh and I are actually watching Thor. I think Rachel is trying to show them all how accurate the costume really is.
Super excited for the season to start! We scrimmage Tiffin on Wednesday. Last year they pretty much beat our butts. Looking for some #payback this time around!! One of my best friends/ ex-teammate plays for Tiffin so I am super excited to play and see her. It should be some excellent competition. Well... I'm off to see watch the rest of Thor now!!! Goodnight Jacket Nation!!!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Like Catherine said, we had our scrimmagen Friday and everyone did really well and played hard. Gold squad came up a little short, but we got better and that's all that counts. It was great to finally meet all of the freshmen's families as well. Saturday we celebrated Halloween! I was Miss America , Rachel was Thor and Jen was Captain America if you couldn't tell. I would just like to say as well that Jen and Rachel both made their entire costumes. Don't they look great? I think so. This is one of the many pictures from last night, but all of the girls costumes were very creative and funny! This year has been a lot of fun already and our group gets along great.. I can't wait to see how our chemistry transpires onto the court this season. I have a feeling we are going to have a great season this year :) Our next scrimmage is on Wednesday at home against Tiffin. And can you believe it, our first game is in almost 2 weeks! With that being said, the jackets are back at it tomorrow with practice!

Happy Saturday!!

(It is also very happy because we didn’t have practice at 8:30 a.m. & I could finally sleep in !! Thanks Coaches :-) )
Yesterday was our annual Intersquad scrimmage! It was also my last one, such a weird thought. It was a lot of fun and always a great time playing against each other in a real game setting. All of our parents were invited to watch and have a little reception afterwards. It is always fun to play the “guessing game” of whose parents belong to what freshman. The scrimmage was filled with a lot of great things that we have spent the past two weeks putting in at practice, but it was also filled with things we need to improve on. The brown squad officially has bragging rights until Monday at 5 p.m. when we return to practice. Coach K had his first victory in the intersquad scrimmage, he now improves his record to 1-2 and Coach Campbell recorded her first loss and has a record of 1-1. After the scrimmage was over we headed to Tressel Lounge and indulged ourselves with pizza and snacks. Every player introduced their family that was there with them and we welcomed everyone in to the yellow jacket family for the 2011-2012 season. Practice has been going very well and we are improving every day. Our next opponent is our scrimmage against Tiffin University on Wednesday. We are going to see a lot of screens and cuts, so we will have our pistols ready and be in defensive stance. Other than basketball, all of the girls have been hanging out with each other and we have a great group this year. Tonight we are celebrating Halloween. It will be interesting to see what everyone is going to dress up as. So far I have about 7 hours to come up with a costume. Stay tuned for the next blog , I’m sure someone will upload some pictures of our team.

Awwww Jackets ;)

Getting better every day

Hi everyone--

I hope you are all as excited about the season as the girls on the team and the coaching staff is. So far, the girls have been a pleasure to coach. It is usually pretty easy to tell when a team has chemistry, and I can definitely tell that the 2011-12 Yellow Jackets have the ability to be a really special group. I am thrilled with the attitude and effort that the girls have displayed, and mostly with their encouragement of each other. The beginning of practice can be a time of mixed emotions and difficult transitions for players and coaches alike, but no matter what the situation, this group is constantly encouraging each other and building each other up. I am very proud of the returners for their leadership, organization, and for embracing the roles that have been asked of them. I am also extremely proud of the freshmen for stepping into some huge roles, and doing everything we are asking of them. It really makes coaching a whole lot easier!

Our goal each practice is to "get better every day". Here is to another day of getting better... WIN TODAY! : )

JacketNation

So this morning we had our last early morning pracctice! Getting up at 4:30 for practice at 5:30 just is down right hard. Not only was getting up early tough, running champion makers at 7 was even tougher. But, when push comes to shove, we'll be the last ones standing :) We have had 6 practices so far and everyone is working their tails off. If we keep up the hard work and intenstiy we have showed thus far, I have no doubt that we will make a deep tournament run! I think I speak for most of the Freshman by saying that we are thankful for all of the upperclassmens help and guidance so far this season. Without them, we would be completely lost!!
We have also had some pretty fun times together!! This past weekend was Jen's Birthday so everyone helped make that day special for her! This weekend is Megan (PILLS) Pillsbury's birthday so I'm sure it'll be another fun weekend! Also, all of the relaxing nights at the Hamilton Apartments watching our favorite TV shows are what makes me feel like home! Being only 8 weeks into school, I feel as if the team is my own family already! :)
Classes have been okay for the most part. Extremely different from high school, but I think we have all made the transition well :)
Only 627 hours and 58 more minutes until our first game!! Hope to see all of our blog readers there!!!

Missing Monopoly Piece...

Hey Everyone
So finally it is my time to blog (2 weeks ago)!! Anyways today i had McDonalds for lunch...my roommate Jen and I are trying to win the million dollars but i think by the time i actually get the boardwalk piece i might not be able to run down the floor. Don't worry though we'll keep trying! On a positive note today will be our fourth practice this season! they have all gone really well and everyone is working hard...even though there is plenty of new material for the freshmen they are putting forth a great effort. Everyone is sore which is a good sign but it might be from our new stretches that put us a lot of pain! This week is midterm week but we don't have classes friday and hopefully everyone can visit their family this weekend. Anyways just to clarify the previous alumni game this weekend i did help! megan wouldnt have been able to announce so clearly if it wasnt for me...and i think that i deserve a shirt for my tremendous efforts!! Thats all for now!

P.S.
If anyone finds a boardwalk piece i'll give you a whopping thousand dollars from my reward :)

What a weekend for the Hive!

This weekend ended in fun and excitement! I got to celebrate my 21st birthday with my teammates/family, Lairson and I got to ref the alumni game which was awesome! and then we all worked the Homecoming football game and rested up for the first practice of the season! Can't believe in one week we have our intrasquad scrimmage and then the following week we have a scrimmage! It's already going by way too fast and time needs to slow down. I can't wait for our first game though because we look fly in our new uni's!!!

Can't wait for fall break to start and I hope all are doing well. We looooove our blog readers!

And the season is underway!!! :):))

Hiii!
We had our first two official practices today! We were all looking good in our practice gear and played even better! (we looked good, so we played good, of course!!) We have already learned so much, and we are looking forward to learning much more. It is going to be a great season, and I couldn't be more excited!! :) I have the best teammates there are. Not only are they teammates, but I consider them good friends and even family. Thank you so very much for nominating me as your Jacket Princess! I am very fortunate I was able to represent you all for homecoming! It was an all around wonderful experience :) I cannot wait for all the fun times ahead, I hope your year has started off as well as mine! Best of luck this season!

Let The Season Begin

Hey everyone!
Time has been flying
by. I cannot believe it is the middle October already! I hope everyone is
having a great fall so far :)
Offseason is officially OVER! It was a challange, but a good one. Swimming was a lot of fun
and so was capture the flag for sure. Props to Catherine who did a great job at
organizing everything and making it fun as well as challenging! The season
begins today!!...I can't wait! It is definitely going to be a fun season. Our
uniforms are sweeeeeet and so are our shoes. Look good play good ;)
We’ve had some pretty good times so far here on campus from taking a dip in the freezing cold ice
bath to jammin’ out in our dorms….cough cough Shari Mangas. I am surprised as
to how well I have adjusted to college and I absolutely love it! I have the
best roommate ever (Shari) and I have her to thank for helping me adjust and
stay focused! (somewhat hahaha). The alumni game yesterday morning was a lot of fun to watch and to get to know a lot of the alumni’s. Megan Frisina did a fantastic job at announcing the game and Rachel Rossman did a great job at doing nothing haha.
I hope everyone has a great rest of the year! Let’s go YELLOW JACKETS!

So it's been slow on our blog so I think I'll show you a few shots of some of the latest around BW.
We had some pretty big excitement in that the college is moving some houses to make way for some other improvements on campus. The first shot is the house in front of it's original lot, then the next is the same house as it is moving toward it's new location, and the third is very near its final destination. The move drew lots of attention from the neighborhood and was pretty amazing to watch.

The next set of pictures is some of our players taking advantage of the cold plunge after a workout. It is FREEZING but it works! :)

:)

Heyyy everyone :) . I hope everyone’s first month went amazing! I know mine did. I mean I can’t lie classes are kind of hard right now! Taking chemistry and biology in the same semester is just a little bit rough but I'm glad to be getting them out of the way! I have really enjoyed getting to hang out with the team the past month and also getting to meet all of the freshman. I have definitely been enjoying all of the preseason workouts I’d have to say my favorite so far has been ultimate football and my least favorite was the swimming workout. I felt like I was drowning the whole time I guess I’m not the best swimmer out there… Anyway only two weeks until season starts and I can’t waitttt! I hope everyone is doing well and keeping up on their school work!!.

weeeek five

hiii (:

Week 5 has just started and I can't believe I've been at BW this long. Between class and basketball, pretty much everyone has a full schedule. I've adjusted very well to the transition from high school to college. How could you not with 20 some girls that enjoy each others company. All of the older girls have been welcoming and patient while the freshman try and learn how things are done. I love the girls in my class. Pills and I have breakfast every day after morning workouts :) and team Blackout (Sharlee, Pills, Audrey, Shari and myself) also had the pleasure of knocking team mangas out of the dodgeball tourney last week. This weekend I was excited to finally get back to Columbus and spend some time with the fam. My cousin and I went to the OSU game on saturday #BuckeyeNation. Now I have exams, papers, and workouts that will keep me busy all week. All my classes have been going smoothly. Hopefully, I will decide on a major soon. This week I am going to shadow a PT to see if it is something that I may be interested in.

Anyways.. T minus 50 days till the yellow jackets step on the court for the first time.
Can't wait for all the memories to come!

Have a good week errrryone (:

WEEK NUMBA 4!

Hey everyone! It is now the fourth week I have been here at BW and I am loving it so far! I'm really shocked at how well I have adjusted here so fast. I thought I was for sure gonna be a little homesick but I am doing great here:) My classes are well.. classes haha, not the most exciting thing to do every morning but definitely the most important. Our workouts have been going good, and we are really working hard together. Waking up at 5 20 twice a week is definitely the biggest adjustment for me, because I love my sleep, but after the workout is over I feel accomplished! I love the union food, people tell me that I will get sick of it, but I it's so good to me! The smoothies in the rec :) so good!

Coach and upperclassmen have definitely made me feel welcome, and I know most of the freshman agree! And I love the 7 other freshman here with me too! I have learned some interesting facts about everyone... Larry was born in Kansas and has always wanted to own a llama farm, Melissa's middle name starts with R and so does mine, Sharlee eats jars of peanut butter like it's her job, Shari's had a ridiculous accent, and Cat knows every line in Bring It On. :) Our team is bonding on and off the court. We just went to camp cheerful as a team, and it definitely makes you realize how lucky you are. The people there were great and really loved us! Little Sally Walker walking down the street..... :)

I really pumped for the season to start and to have a great experience with everyone. I'm also looking forward to Florida. WOOO beach and getting tan. YESSS! And I heard the team dinners are pretty amazing so I can't wait to eat!! Story of my life...

GO BW!

My Life Is Fun

Heeeey guys :) So it is the start of our third week here and it has been nothing but a blessing. I am extremely thankful and happy that I have gotten to meet the team and spend some time together. My classes are a little challenging along with balancing workouts, study tables, ect. but as the weeks go on I am finding myself relaxing and finding a great balance. So we have been doing some nice 6 A.M. workouts and although waking up at 5:20 is a little out of the usual for me, I really enjoy our workouts. It has a great sense of reward when it is all said and done.

So I am sitting in my room and I just finished my first paper which I think I did good on just jammin to some Jason Aldean eating some pineapple! YUMMMM. I know a few girls went to the Country Jam and I heard it was a lot of fun! Atleast I hope you guys had fun!

I am literally loving everything about BW! My team, my coach, my roommate, MY BED, my classes, and the union bkfast! It is a great time and I only plan on it getting better! I absolutely cannot wait for practices let alone our season to start. I am really excited and I think this will be the best experience I have ever had. I am really glad I get to spend it with all you guys :)

This first picture is of me and my roommate, Taylor. I know most of you guys have met and she is super nice and a lot of fun! I am sure everyone will get to know her as the season goes on!

This is the Blink 182 concert I went to this summer and I don't know why this was relevant to this blog but uh, I love them and it was a great time! haha

Week 3, Jam Out

HIII :)

it is Sunday and the Browns are losing :( I feel like this could be the start of every Sunday blog. Even though I am a die hard Browns fan, they keep breaking my heart. There are still 3 minutes left though so I haven't completely given up hope. ANYWAYSSS I thought about doing another video blog but decided that my current physical appearance is not quite up for being on camera. This is due in part to my second favorite weekend of the year (first is April Reign) COUNTRY JAM!! It is basically a two day country concert held at the fairgounds right by campus. This year the headliner was Darius Rucker, but there were 5 or 6 other bands who played all Friday and Saturday. Even though I'm not a huge counrty fan, I use any excuse I can to wear plaid shirts and jeanshorts. It was a little rainy this weekend, but we did not let that stand in our way of having a wonderful time. Unfortunately, there were plenty of yellowjackets

^^Catherine and Jess love country jam, don't love mud

there but no rain jackets :(. Country Jammers included myself, Jessica Carpenter, Catherine Spisak, Jen Calhoon, Rachel Rossman, and a few other counrty music enthusiasts. Luckily the only casulties of this years Country Jam were Mine and Catherine's flip flops, which got burried in the mud on Friday night. We decided it was probably easiier to splurge on a new pair at Old Navy for 2 dollars than try to salvage them. Other than that, everyone had a great time and I know I can speak for all jackets when I say that I am counting down the minutes till our workout tomorrow morning!!!!!! Welp, the Browns just lost, maybe next week... AWWWWW JACKETS

Doin' Work JACKETS!!

Howdy everyone!!
It is already the 3rd week of school and going fast! I know you have already heard details about our little camping trip, but I also have to add that it was super fun! In our survivor challenge I had to eat grass, yuck!! Although I am very thankful I did not have to eat the pickled purple hard boiled egg haha! But through the water and fire challenge we prevailed and were the winners of the challenge, and we got to sleep in the cabin, although because of the storm EVERYONE slept in the cabin which did lead to a fun experience. I, however, was super comfortable on the one bed that was inside :)
Another superrrrrrr exciting event is that last week I was cleared by the doctor with a month progression into basketball! That was an awesome day, and finally getting back into everything feels amazing, I really missed working hard with my teammates. And all the hard work I put in over the summer is paying off :)
Lastly, I just want to say everyone is doing an amazing job working hard in our conditioning sessions, I know this is not the most fun part of basketball but it will pay off in the end! Keep up the good work!

What a great day!

This afternoon Amanda "Mondie" Mondrach and Ryan Gnagy were married. Mondie was an outstanding player for us and Ryan was a student coach. Even more fun was the reception. It was a blast watching our YJ4L (Yellow Jackets for Life) interact and have fun. We had 13 alums, 3 former student coaches, 2 assistants and their wives, and several former practice players there. It was truly heartwarming to be a part of tonight's festivities. Pictures are of the wedding, first dance at the reception, and some of our YJ4L crew having fun.

The final picture needs a little bit of explaining. A few years ago Butz tried to teach me the dance to Soulja Boy on the bus on the way home from a game. It caused great laughter at the time. So tonight, they called all the players and coaches up for a picture, except once we all got there, the DJ played Soulja Boy and of course everyone wanted a replay of that bus dance. It really was a lot of fun even though I can't dance at all!

I truly have been blessed to have the opportunity to coach and work with some great young ladies and coaches. Tonight was a great reminder of that. I miss them all!

We didn't start the fire! (But seriously...)

Welll hello everyone :)

I can't believe the second week is already over! This past weekend we had the camping trip at Coach's house. It was....interesting, but a blast :) Basically, we had 2 teams and it was a survivor competition. If it were just a competition in carrying people and being blindfolded, we would easily win....but if we really had to survive in the wilderness -- we would die. The final challenge was fire starting (or lack thereof).... well we REALLY put in an effort. So much effort, that we had to put another tape into the video camera. Props to Catherine...she had some rough paws after making it rain with magnesium shavings. We 'finished' and gracefully carried Jen back to camp. We never gave up so that's all that matters!

Workouts and open gyms have started. I went to my first one on Wednesday. I'm not cleared yet, so I couldn't do any of the sprint work, but I'm more than happy to support all of you. Everyone pushed themselves in sprints and lifting and I'm really looking forward to the upcoming season! I really want to join you guys and contribute, but regardless -- I know that EVERYONE is going to work hard, no matter what their role is. :)

My classes are actually going really well! I love all of them, although i have a full plate. My only problem is Art appreciation...I'm sorry BW, but I will never appreciate art...but at least i have some bball players in that class to help get me through!

Hope the week finishes up well for all of you yellowjackets!

P.S. seee yaa bright and earlyyy at conditioning tomorrow! I'm excited for spinning and Coach Campbell's upbeat workout playlists :) Lesss goooo!!!

week #2!

Well we are finishing up our second week of school! I'd like to say it flew by..but not really haha getting into the routine of waking up early and listening to your teacher lectures takes some getting used to, but I know when we're all making the big bucks it will be worth it :) haha This past weekend camping at the farm was definitely fun and an adventure! I am a proud member of the team the won our "Survivor" challenge. But considering how hard it was to start a fire and wear blind folds, and carry a person on stretcher to each challenge, I feel like if any of us were really on the show Survivor..we might die. As the winning team we got to sleep in the cabin, while the others slept outside..until it started storming and nobody was a winner, since we all had to squish and sleep inside. As coach said "Champion teams touch each other more", and that we did haha we were like a can of sardines with no wiggle room. Myself being 6'2 and sharing 4 feet of space with Melissa and Jess was quite an experience. It was hard enough to sleep and then Jess probably sat up about 4 times in her sleep and began sleep talking. The first few times I tried to comprehend what she was saying, but when i realized she wasn't even aware that she was speaking, so I just ignored her haha it was a rough night, but an overall really fun time. We all got to do fun stuff and eat a lot (our favorite thing to do), even though some girls threw up from the food challenge we had, I won't say any names (Laurel), it was a great time! Now we are back to the reality of studying hard and working hard on the court and in the weight room. I know the Lady Yellow Jackets will be ready to bring it this year, can't wait!! :)

Let the FUN BEGIN!

Wellllll.....it's that time of the year again! Classes started last week, and I have 8 A.M.'s everyday....fun fun. But besides that it's time to start conditioning. It all started Friday with a little fun run plus some sprints through the metroparks at 6 in the morning. We for sure saw some deer out there. :) And today was our first day of conditioning in the gym, that champion maker was a fun time, let me tell you. On Friday we are spinning for our "fun" day of conditioning. It may look easy, but it is definitely a workout. But enough about that, let's talk about something else.

This past weekend, we had our team-bonding camping trip. We had fun on the 4-wheeler and swimming, but then the challenge for the cabin began. It all started with a food-eating contest, and some of the things were disgusting! (grass in a bowl and pickled eggs...gross!) But then we had to act like we were on the Survivor show and complete 3 challenges, all while some people were blindfolded and another was on a stretcher. My team did pretty good at the water challenge and the challenge where someone had to climb the tree....but then came the fire challenge... We were supposed to start a fire using a fire starter thingy were you had to scrape metal into a pile and then scrape sparks into the shavings....we definitely were not doing it right...(but it was a valiant effort by Cat) so we got stuck in the tent. Everything would have been ok, but first, a cat got into our tent and freaked everyone out, and then it started storming...so we all got to sleep in the cabin...22ish people...in a one room cabin. It was slightly cramped...but still fun!

After the camping trip, I went to the Mudhens (thats baseball) game for my brother's birthday. He is 16 now! But when we got home, we had a slight crisis! We have had kittens behind our shed for a while, and we have been feeding them. Well my brother called me freaking out because a hawk tried to take one of the kittens! He got the hawk to drop the kitten, but he didn't want them to get eaten, so he took them into our garage...so now my family has 3 little baby cats to take care of. :) I love cats so I was ok with that...but my mom doesn't want anymore pets so we had to find new homes for them....but yay! My brother and I are cat heroes! And that is about everything that happened this past week that was slightly interesting...

P.S. That picture is of me and my family at dinner before the Mudhens game! Happy Birthday Mike!

and that is all....

Hmmmm

So we had our first casualty of the season. Frosh Megan P. found a way to walk into a door after open gym and gashed her eye open. After lots of blood, and a few stitches she will be good as new. :)

Eh, I'm Bored

I blogged before sharing lovely information about my life but for right now I'm sitting at work bored. BW has been champions of the world this summer. We're taking over any possibly tournament around the area. Rachel Rossman, Megan Frisina, and I played in a 3 on 3 tournament out in Titusville, PA. It is an outdoor, parking lot, 3 on 3 basketball festival. There were 8 teams in our Division, Division Diana Turasi. Yeah, well, out of the 2 days we played totalling roughly 10 games, we came out on top, undefeated, couple scrapes and bruises CHAMPIONS of the women's bracket. NO BIG DEAL. You can see our shined trophies and t-shirts hung proudly.

Not to mention Jess Lairson, Jess Carpentar, Rachel Rossman, and I take over Walsh University's open gyms. It's not easy being winners all the time. I hope we do some damage this season because we've all gotten this winner's mindset and can't, won't, refuse to settle for anything less.

I probably should be at football practice but those boys can wait, blogging is so much more fun.

Can everyone please move in! Hammytime is lonely!

LEHHGOOO
Okay bye.

Kacie Evans, Freshman :)

Heeeeyy everyone! Sorry i'm suuuuper late blogging, we had some issues with our internet :/ . But anyways, my name is Kacie Evans, I'm from Newark, Ohio. Its about 2 hours fromm BW, depending on your driving habits :) I graduated from Newark High School. I have an older sister Jennifer, 2 cats and a dog. I'm extremely close to my family, without them I'm not sure where I would be. I love music and am hoping to learn how to play the drums! Larry might be able to teach me! Hahaha. I'm a Christian and hope to one day be a part of a praise and worship band. Behind the basketball player is a die hard 4-H'er. If some of you don't know what that means, I raise and show livestock at the fair in the summer! The Hartford Fair was my home for 10 days every summer for the past 9 years. I started out with goats, then started showing hogs and cattle. As gross as they are, raising hogs has been my favorite part of being in 4-H. I'm pretty random at times, but I think we all are. I'm not very shy, I love to dance and sing (even though I'm not good at it), I love all types of music. I'll stop there because then we won't have anything to talk about later! Hahaha. Alright so I bet your all wondering about the pictures, probably a few specific ones. Well the first one is a tad hard to explain, but to make it easy, I won a lot of trophies with this hog and blah blah blah. The second would be Me and the absolute love of my life, Blayden. This was where we started, when he was barely a week old. Technically, my title is Babysitter, but in the past 22 months I've earned the title Big sister, Teacher, and Best friend. He comes before everything in my life. I should probably apologize now because I'll endlessly talk about this kid lol But the third and final picture is him now, almost 2 years old and the biggest stinker I've ever seen. I'm sure you will all meet him, he'll melt your heart :) Buuuuut I can't wait to move in and get freshman year rollin. I'm absolutely STOKED to start working out with the team and getting to know everyone! That's all for now, See everyone soon! :)

Laurel Thomas, Freshman

My name is Laurel Thomas and I will be a freshman this fall. I am a graduate of Canton Central Catholic High School. Canton is about an hour away from BW. I am so excited for college and basketball! Everyone I have met from the team I have really enjoyed and I look forward to meeting the rest of you! I will be living in North this year and I am a business major. I am blessed to have such a wonderful family. My mom and dad are Bob and Teresa. You will all know my dad before long.. He has been very impressed with those of you he has met. From a young age has taught me to love the game of basketball. I have two sisters. My older sister Erika will be a senior at the University of Dayton and my younger sister Brittany will be a sophomore at Central. This summer I have been training, shooting, working and spending time with my family and friends. I hope you are all enjoying your summer! I can't wait to see you later this month :)

CHAMPS OF THE WORLD!!!

Larry, Rache, Jen and I went to Walsh's open gym tonight and it was so good to play with my teammates again...Ive missed them so much! Anyways, the real reason I decided to blog was because of the improvement I saw tonight when we played. Rache (this is rachel!!) was a whole new player. She attacked the basket like no other and finished at that. Not to mention she probably led our team in rebounds the whole night...defensive and offensive. Go giiiiiiiirl. As for Jen, this girl has range ladies. She was stroking it all night along with making moves at the basket down low. What impressed me the most was how well she was defending and holding her ground on girls twice her size (Jen was our center). And last but not least...Larry. She got to the rim when she wanted and shot the ball so well and obviously beasted it on the boards. I was so proud of these girls and how much you can tell they have been working at it. Hard work doesn't go unoticed. So good job and keep up the good work! And as for everyone else, I'm sure you are working just as hard. Make sure we are busting out butts this last month, cause offseason is when champions are made and WE WILL WIN THE LEAGUE. Remember, it always takes a little more to be a yellow jacket! See you Speaking of champions...tonight the last game was considered the championship and we won! We beat Walsh's team to win it! Just thought I'd share, see you in a month :)

P.S.- there was a Mount player there, secretly Larry and I wanted boo her as she introduced herself, but we stayed classy, no worries! Nothing wrong with a little friendly competition eh?

jenna andreas . freshman (:

Hiiii everyone ! Seems like summer has been flying by lately and we only have a month left. The name is Jenna Andreas and I will be a freshman this fall. I graduated in the spring for Pickerington High School North. North is a bigger school about 20 minutes from downtown Columbus so the drive to school is a good 2 hours and 20 minutes. I cannot wait to start school in the fall! I love love love meeting new people, so I am especially excited to meet everyone on the team and get to know you all. I am currently an undeclared major, however, I see myself ending up studying business/finance. I will be a part of the honors program this year, so hopefully that will be a good challenge for me. I am living with Kacie Evans in Constitution so everyone is more than welcome to come over ☺

Ok so about me… I am an only child, but I have 3 cousins that are basically my sisters. Family is super important to me. Mom and dad are Dave & Becky Andreas, I love them to death. I have a puppy that’s one year old. Her name is Riley. In my free time I love to shop. My favorite season is the fall. Music is my fav, I could listen to Mac Miller all day. During high school I played golf, basketball, and softball. Since I was 4, basketball has always been my one love. My team last year was fortunate enough to play in the state tournament at The Schott. It was definitely an experience in itself.

I am currently on vacation in Florida, about to head over to the beach, so I hope you all enjoy the rest of summer and I will see you in the fall !

Pictures : Me and two of my friends (Mary & Shelby) from high school at the beach in Wilmington, North Carolina. One of my senior pictures, and the seven seniors from North accepting the Regional trophy before we played at states !

Freshman (:

Hello (: My name is Sharlee Bailey, and I will be a freshman this year. I am so excited to start school in about a month and finally meet everyone. I am a graduate of Wadsworth High, the home of the Grizzlies, red and white. Wadsworth is about forty-five minutes from BW. I plan on majoring in Middle Childhood Education focusing on math and science, while minoring in Speech Pathology. Throughout high school, I played volleyball and basketball; for the years that i was healthy, that is. Going into my sophomore basketball season, i tore my left ACL and Meniscus, which consisted of an eighth-month recovery. I managed to stay pretty healthy throughout my junior year, but then I tore my left Meniscus during a summer league game, which Coach Harrer was actually watching. After the Doctor repaired my knee, i had a four-month recovery just in time to play my senior year. I was doing good until one weekend in December when I went down with a right ACL tear at Classic in the Country, which Coach Harrer, once again, was watching. Bad luck charm maybe? haha Getting through high school was pretty rough, but I am happy to say I was just released to play basketball again! The doctor says my knees are now much stronger than they were before and, as long as I keep up with my strength training, my ACL's should be fine. My family was a huge support group that got me through. My mom and dad, Bev and Dave, were here for me every step of the way. My sisters Holland, 22 years old, and Jani, 15 years old, also had my back at all times. I am rooming with Jenny and we are basically all ready to move into Carmel. I spend most of my time in rehab, working out, hanging out with friends, and sleeping. I hope everyone is enjoying the last month of summer, and i can't wait for basketball season to start! (:

My pictures...
1st picture: This was senior night and also the night right before I got surgery. My Coach let me start the game and catch the tip off to start the game. It was pretty exciting; still wish I could have played.
2nd picture: This is me, after my third surgery; during the recovery of each one, my friends were constantly visiting me to keep me company.
3rd picture: This is my family supporting me at my graduation.

Lexi Rohrbach

Hi everyone! I'm Lexi and I'm going to be a sophomore next year. I am majoring in communication disorders and minoring in biology. I've been spending my summer working at a daycare (which is a BLAST by the way), working out, and getting my shoulder strong for next season. I am so excited for the season to be here! Now about my family:) I live with my wonderful mom and brother in the lovely town of Tiffin, Ohio. We have a Walmart here...yupp that's our main store. My mom recently retired from coaching Varsity volleyball at my high school (where I played under her for 4 years) and she is my one of my main fans. She comes to almost all our games. My brother is 15 and plays football, basketball, and baseball for Columbian High School. I come from a hugeeeee family, and my Aunt Debbie and Uncle David are like a 2nd set of parents to me. They will be at all our games too. Andddd that's about all I have to say....on to pictures!

The 1st pic is of me and Nancy (who is also on the team) going 4-wheeling!
The 2nd pic is me and my brother Michael right before we went parasailing in Florida.
The 3rd pic is me and my Uncle David on a random bench at a festival.
The 4th pic is my mom, Aunt Debbie, and I at a festival.
and the 5th pic is a ZEBRA! I just went to the Cleveland zoo with my friend Maya, and it was a blast! Zebras and penguins are my favorite animals! Buttttt the zoo didn't have penguins! I was so sad, what kind of zoo doesn't have penguins???

Well thats all I've got, hope everyone is enjoying their summers! See you all soon!

AWWWWWWWWW JACKETS!:)

Lizzy - Sophomore

Hello yellow jackets :) I hope you are all have a fantastic summer! I can't believe that we have just about a month until school starts!
Alrighty, well I'm Lizzy Ziemski, I will be a sophomore this year. I'm a sport management major with a minor in coaching and publice relations. I'm not sure exactly where I want to take it yet but I have plenty of time. Things to know: I'm obsessed with tennis shoes, eating, and my cat Mr. Paco :)

The first picture is of some of my friends from high school and the second is of some girls on the team when we were at Hammytime!

I unfortunately had an ACL tear in open gym last September, so I missed the entire season. As much as i LOVED supporting you girls, I can't wait to get back on the floor and be a real basketball player again. Sitting through games, practices, scouts/film was honestly the hardest thing ever, knowing that I wouldn't be able to play. One positive is that I have learned a lot and I have a strong mental edge. Although I'm not cleared yet, my doc is proposing around September/October. So I'm trying to do what I can!

I'll be living in Findlay this year with my roommate from last year! It's going to be a blasttt. North campus -- hollaaa! Hope the summer finishes up well for you all! See you sooon!
