Day 2:
We started the day off by eating wonderful breakfast complimentary of the ESJ Tower hotels. After that, we took a lovely stroll to the Coliseo Guillermo Angulo to play our first game against the 4th nationally ranked Tufts Jumbos. There were a few differences of the court such as the professional three point line and a wider key, but otherwise it was the same as the courts back at home. With a close first half, in favor of the jumbos, we headed in to half time confident and ready to roll. Unfortunately after a good start to the second half, we didn't finish out the game with a win because of costly turnovers.

The part yall really wanna hear about though is the once in a lifetime experience we are getting to have. Though we get angry and sad about losing, we realize that this is just a game and the memories we are making with one another are things that really matter. We usually spend our days on the beach and at the pool. For dinner we go for walks around town exploring the town and trying to find new places to eat and visit. Tomorrow we get to go explore old San juan and see one of the oldest towns in North America. The weather has been in the high 70's and low 80's so I can't complain about that :)

Our next game is Wednesday against Emmanuel at 11 am our time, which is 10 Ohio time. Hope you can tune in and watch us kick butt !!

Peace and blessings,

Hello friends!!
So it's my first vacation trip out of Ohio and I'm so happy to say it's with my BW teammates in Puerto Rico!!!😄 What an awesome and exciting experience this has been so far...where do I begin?! First off, my first plane ride was terrifying to say the least; heights and roller coasters are 2 of my biggest fears, and with that being said, the plane ride was definitely a challenge but it's proven to be so worth it because Puerto Rico is sweet.☺️ Seeing the beach for the first time was also a huge plus to this trip...I could sit in the sand and watch the waves roll in and out all day long. But most importantly I can't wait for our first games to begin on Monday because it's a great opportunity for us to compete with some top ranked teams!!

Peace and love,
Clara

Here In Puerto Rico!

Hola!
This is Sydney Clark, blogging in PUERTO RICO! The semester has ended and our team did amazing with grades! I was so excited for break because I got to see a lot of my family and friends that I have not seen in a while. Also Christmas was coming and of course our awesome trip to Puerto Rico ! So far it's only been two days on our trip but it's been going great so far. The airplane rides were very smooth and it was so cool when we were flying over the water. The view was amazing. Also we got to go to the beach today which is my favorite part. The water was a perfect temperature and I got to walk around the beach also and see all the other attractions. We play tufts university tomorrow, who is a very good team, so I'm very excited to play them. Being the underdog is always better in my mind because it gets us all hyped up! I'm excited to see what else we get to see and learn while on this trip and also to bring home a couple wins to Berea !
Until next time,
Adios, Feliz navidad y feliz nuevo año!

Hi everyone!
So we are underway with our preseason, getting our lift on and some good workouts at open gym.  As a team, we are growing together in our relationships.  I am looking forward to this season to start!  However, the dreaded aspect of preseason is about to start, conditioning…  I personally enjoy running, but conditioning is a different story..!  So please be thinking of us on Sunday at 7 for our first day of running! :)

Another thing that start this week for us is our big fundraiser for Puerto Rico.  We are working at Swings N' Things for Zombie Paintball.  This should be interesting to say the least.  We get to wear super cool zombie masks and protective gear and walk around like zombies, all the while getting shot at by other people!  This should be fun!  Come support our team and shoot us with paintballs on Friday!

As for school, classes are rolling and tests are starting to pop up, which is always stressful.  For me, it's always nice to break away from school and play and hang out with my best friends who just so happen to be my teammates. I am truly looking forward to getting our season started.  Watch out!

Have a great night!

It's Fall :)....almost

Helloooooooooo! I hope everyone has a great first few weeks of school at the lovely Baldwin Wallace University. It's a bit colder than it normally is around this time, so start bringin' out the warm clothes! I love fall, it is my favorite season. If I could live in a place where it was fall 24/7/365, I would move there. It's so beautiful watching the leaves change, as well as wearing cozy clothes and drinking hot chocolate. Yummm. Anyway, recently I have realized a really cool perk of going to school close to home: it's being able to watch my little brother grow up. We recently celebrated his 14th birthday and it amazes how much he has grown into an awesome teenager. He is absolutely hilarious and makes my stressful days seem to disappear :) Well, I hope everyone has a wonderful week! Until next time....

3 Weeks Under the Belt.

Hello everyone! It's just Geena Gabriel again. Finally done with my 3rd full week of college and let me tell you what, IT HAS BEEN AMAZING!!!! I just love college, it is sooooo much better then high school. This puts the 8 hour school days to shame! haha But so far has been good and my classes are literally the best. My roommate is Diamond Gonzalez and we get along actually really well! She lives in Cleveland so she only lives like 20 minutes away but the only bad thing is is that she doesn't really like to watch or play sports. ): I cannot wait to attend my first BW Football game tomorrow and have my family come up and visit for Community Day! I am beyond excited to see them and to meet everyone's family and just get to hang out with the team! We had team dinner last night thanks to the upperclassmen and we had DELICIOUS spaghetti!!!!! yummmmmmmmmy. (: so thank you guys for the wonderful dinner. I hope everyone is having a great time in this cold weather, welcome to Ohio! hahaha

With Love,
Geena

Summer Time Sadness

Hello readers! My name is Allyson Helleis and I am going to be a junior on the basketball team. For those of you who haven't read my blogs before, I major in Pre-Physical therapy with two minors and I am the oldest in my family of three girls. My two younger sisters are going to be a freshman in college and a junior in high school. Its crazy how time is flying by!!!! I've been living at home with my parents and sisters this summer along with dumb and dumber (Alissa and Janaya). This summer has been very interesting to say the least haha.

My summer has been pretty typical. Working, working out, sleeping, eating and put that on repeat. Living with Janaya and Alissa though have made this summer bearable. They are the two biggest fools when they are together! My cat Nellie has also made this summer go by faster. She is the cutest thing ever, just the way she sleeps warms my heart! Her new favorite thing is going outside and rolling around on our new driveway... seriously s'cute.

This past weekend was actually more eventful then I have been all summer. Friday, Janaya brought her nephew over which was a very pleasant surprise. Saturday we took him to the county fair and I've never seen someone so happy to jump in a bouncy house! Then that night Janaya and I went to visit an old friend from BW our freshmen year, Sabre, at Bowling Green. Sunday afternoon at 3, Coach Bell, janaya, my father and I went to the Gladiators playoff game. For those of you who don't who the Gladiators are, they are an arena football team in Cleveland that won and are going to the Arena Bowl, the championship of Arena football, on Saturday August 23rd. WE MIGHT ACTUALLY HAVE A CHAMPIONSHIP IN CLEVELAND WHOOP WHOOP!

So besides the rather eventful weekend I had my life is pretty ordinary. Just like any other college student I think I am ready for school to start, not for classes to start! I just want to see all my friends that I haven't seen all summer and for the season to start already. But I am going to enjoy what I can of these last two weeks of rainy weather before school starts! Thank you Cleveland weather! ALSO... CONGRATS to our former assistant coach Alyson Campbell for her three new baby girls! We love you guys!

I would put pictures up but I can never figure it out and my pictures are always just boxes with question marks in them haha

AWWWWW JACKETS!

2 more weeks!

Hey everybody! My name is Megan Schubert and I'll be a freshman at BW this year! It's so crazy to think that in 14 days I'll be in college with all you guys....ahhhh! I'm so excited! This has been by far the fastest and one of the craziest summers yet. So anyway, here's a little but about me. I'm from the not so famous Ayersville, Ohio, the most podunk town you will ever encounter. It's in the northwest region sort of  by Toledo in case you've never heard of it, so it's a solid 2 1/2 hours away. I have two crazy dogs who I absolutely love, and will probably miss more than my family haha (don't tell them I said that) and two brothers, one will be a freshman in High School :O, and the other will be in Lima going to UNOH.  I'll be majoring in pre-physical therapy with high hopes of later going into occupational therapy later on in the future.
Like I said before, this has been a pretty crazy summer. Last spring I started a job at Dunham's sports so I've been working there over the summer along with helping my friend babysit 2 monstrous kids for a couple of weeks while she was away. Thank goodness that was only for a couple of weeks because I would not have been able to make it all summer with those children...I get nightmares just thinking about it. But anyways along with those glorious jobs I've pretty much been working out & shooting and hanging out with my frends, except about 3 weeks ago when I got to go to Mexico with my church...it was amazing! We stayed in Peto (over in the Yucatan area) for about a week with this partner church we have down there, and I loved it! My friend and I stayed with the cutest old lady ever who was just about 90 years old and less than half of my size ( in case you're wondering I'm 6'3 1/2") so she was pretty freaking adorable! But what we did down there was add on to their church they had started about 2 years ago and also help with their Vacation Bible School. It was one of the most awesome experiences and I could seriously go on all day talking about it so I'll just leave it at that for now.
So anyway that's pretty much been my summer. Now I'm so pumped to get over there to BW and start this new chapter in my life with all you awesome people, and I can't wait to meet whoever I haven't already met! So I'll see you guys soon! Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Hi everyone! My name is Kelsey Erslan and I will be a freshman this year at BW. I am very excited to be a part of the team and can't wait until season starts!! I'm from Kentucky, so it's about a 7 hour drive to BW. (yeah I'm the girl with the accent) Right now I am undecided about my major but thinking about exercise science. Well I have a twin sister and she is always by my side. We decided not to go to the same college to see what it will be like to not be with each other 24/7. I also have a younger brother and sister.I graduated from Barbourville High School. There were 47 in my graduating class, so it was a very small school. I was born in Ohio but my family moved to Kentucky when I was younger. I always knew I wanted to go to college in Ohio and I'm glad I chose BW. I cant believe I'm going to start college in a few weeks, but I am really looking forward to getting to meet a lot of new people!!

Less than a month..........

Hey everyone!

My name is Audrey Smolik and I will be a senior this year at BW. It still hasn't sunk it yet that it is my last year here. Word of advice to everyone....time FLIES. So enjoy every moment you have at BW because before you know it you will be old like me! haha anyways, I am from Strongsville which is about 15 minutes away from BW. I live with my mom, dad, younger brother, and our new family member Emma who is our 3 year old Saint Bernard :)  I also have an older sister but she is in grad school at the University of Kentucky and currently lives down there. This summer has been one of the biggest learning experiences for me. My full time job is babysitting/nannying for a family in my neighborhood. They are pretty much my second family. But on top of that, I was a head coach for an aau team. Our name was SMAC ICE. We traveled to PA twice, Kentucky, and Indiana. It was one of the most amazing learning experiences for me. I never really considered coaching but after having spent weeks with those girls, I may change my mind. They are a wonderful, funny, goofy, dedicated group of girls that helped me grow as a person. Besides my job and coaching, my summer has consisted of hanging out with friends (a lot of catching up with friends from high school), workouts (of course), family time, and shopping. I spend way too much time and money shopping. I am so excited to meet all of the freshman! I have met a few and cannot wait to meet the rest. Prepare yourselves, our team can be crazy :) I hope everyone has had a fun summer so far. Enjoy the rest of it because school is coming up fast! Stay safe!

Going into Sophomore Year!

Hi everyone, my name's Sydney Clark, and I don't have any cool nicknames like Keeks or Grandma but I usually just go by Syd. haha I will be a sophomore this coming up year and I am so excited to get back to school. Here's a little about myself. This summer I just have been working at a salon in Brecksville, Ohio as a receptionist and working out up at school. I can't believe it's almost August already, the summer flew by. I didn't go on any vacations or anything but I did take a trip to Cedar Point on BW day and road the Millennium Force for the first time ! I was so scared the whole time in line but I was so glad that I road it after. My major is Public Relations and I hope to minor in marketing. I also have an awesome internship as an event manger this year which I am looking forward too, while I juggle working at the rec's smoothie bar as well.

Our team is like no other. I have made so many memories this year and friends that will last forever. We have a great bond on the court and off. The junior class can get a little crazy, but we all still love them. I cannot wait for our trip to Puerto Rico especially since I'm Puerto Rican and most of my aunts and uncles were born there. It's always been a dream of mine to go visit and now I get to play basketball there! I'm not the biggest fan of flying but I do love going to the beach.

I'm really excited for this season  to start this year. We have a lot of great players coming back and some awesome freshman as well. Hope you all enjoy what is left of the summer, can't wait to be back at school and I will see everyone soon.

Hi Everyone!

Hey! I am Katie Smith (the one that lives 15 minutes away) from Fairview Park. I will be a freshman this upcoming year and am very excited to start. I will be majoring in Pre - Physical Therapy and Athletic Training. Katie Swanson and I will be living in the new Saylor hall dorms together so im really excited about that! We are just going to have to figure out some nicknames. I just started a volunteer job at Orthopedic Associates in their physical therapy area, mostly just to be around the things in that profession. I love to be on the lake in the summer. My grandpa has a boat on Lake Erie so I love to be out there either tubing, jet skiing, or just going on a boat ride. Also this summer I went to Hilton Head Island (my favorite place) with my family. Chipotle is my favorite place to eat, so I will be making lots of trips there.  I love to travel so I can’t wait for our Puerto Rico trip! I am really looking forward to getting to be apart of the team and help the team succeed in any way that I can!

HEYYYYY from Illinois :)

Well ive never blogged before but here goes nothing! My name is Katie Swanson and im going to be a freshman this coming year. I live in Elgin, IL which is about 6 hours from BW. My birthday is August 20th which is the day I will be leaving for BW. Yes....im a youngster....I will be turning 18 :) Ohhh I heard most of the girls can only tell me and Katie Smith apart by "Katie from IL" and "Katie from 15 mins away".....that needs to change! haha. I will also be rooming with Katie, which is going to be awesome and I cant wait to move into the dorm! Well anyways, I want to go into veterinary medicine so I'll probably major in biology or some type of science.....don't really know yet. I live with my mom, Lenora, my dad, David, and my brother, Matt, who is going to be a junior at Ball State University in Indiana. AND I also live with my wonderful dog, Maxie. She is a golden retriever and is 9 years old but has cancer and isn't doing too well...  But getting away from that subject, I just started working at a local animal clinic in the beginning of summer! MY FIRST JOB...uhhh that was scary at first. Have had many experiences both good and bad and many stories to tell...so if you want to know about life working at a animal clinic just ask! Today was a bit of a shock at work cuz one of my coworkers got bit in the face by a dog...shes okay but has a couple holes in her chin and neck. Anyways, besides working at the animal clinic, I have been playing in a basketball summer league with a local college but that just ended....lets just say my team didn't have height besides me and one other girl. What else? I haven't really done much this summer other than work and play basketball. I'm trying to get my mom to go up to Wisconsin the weekend before my birthday and go fishing on one of the lakes! Well that's all I can think of to say. Cant wait to be at BW and become really close with the team :) See you guys soon!!

*tried to upload a pic of Maxie but it wouldn't work :(

Marissa "Mo Mo" Hellisz

Hey everyone! My name is Marissa Hellisz but to the team I’m known as “Mo Mo” (thanks to Janaya for coming up with it last year). I will be a junior this year and it really is hard to believe how quickly my time at BW has gone so far! I have a double major in Pre-Physical Therapy and Exercise Science in order to become a physical therapist in the near future. Also I’m a multi-sport athlete who competes in both basketball and track so I have a very busy schedule during the school year. I went to Normandy high school in Parma (which is the opposite way of BW on Bagley) and I’m a commuter because I live about 10-15 minutes from BW depending on traffic. Some more things about me, I love seeing movies so if you ever want to know if a movie is good or worth seeing ask me, because I’ve probably seen it or I’m going to see it. Another thing is I love super heroes, batman especially, I have some super hero shirts you’ll probably see me wearing throughout the year. I also love Nike that’s pretty much the only brand you’ll see me wear and I was so happy this past year our shoes were Nike! The upper classmen also know me for my Nike tank tops that I wear to our shoot arounds and they tease me because I have the same shirt in more than a dozen different colors haha.

This summer has been the best one for me so far because I’ve been able to do a lot of things I enjoy doing. Basketball is something I absolutely love so for me preparing for next year’s basketball season (by lifting, shooting and playing pick-up games) is something I enjoy and get excited about. I know everyone on the team is working hard to be the best because we know what it takes to get to that next level. I’m so excited for next season and can’t wait for all our hard work to pay off. Besides working on my game, I’ve been able to catch up with a few of my best friends who went away to college and that I’ve been with since grade school! I’m an adventurous person so we go hiking to many different places, go on bike rides, swim and just do things to enjoy the outdoors. I’m a very active person so I always find something fun to keep me busy. When I’m not hanging out and catching up with friends, I’m working a few part time jobs and doing my two summer classes. I had the opportunity to meet a few of the freshmen who are awesome and I can’t wait to meet the rest of them! :) I’m looking forward to seeing everyone again and I’m so pumped to see where this year is going to take us!

Hello everyone! My name is Cassandra Midlik and I will be a freshman here at BW this coming year. Cassandra is my full name but people normally just call me Casey or Case. I graduated from Medina High School this year and I am very excited to be apart of the BW family. My goal is to Major in Pre Physical Therapy and minor in Exercise Science. I grew up in a family that strongly supports basketball, my mom has been a coach for over 20 years, along with siblings that use to play. Along with playing basketball I use to run Cross Country until I tore my ACL the summer before my Junior year. I also spend my summers at my family's lake house on Chippewa Lake. There, I ski on the Chippewa Lake Water Ski Show Team. It is a competitive water ski team where we travel to different states to compete at tournaments. We also do free shows in Norton every Wednesday night! My whole family skis and has been skiing on the team for 15 years. I am thrilled to be apart of this team! I cant wait to meet everyone and for the season to start!

Summer 2014 ❤️

Hey everyone! My name is Mackenzie but I usually get called Kenzie, Kenz, Kenie, Ken, or everyone's favorite grandma. For the freshman don't listen to them I'm not a grandma 😉 anyways I will be a sophomore this year and I can't believe my freshman year is already over!! It went by extremely fast! Becoming a yellow jacket was one of the best decisions I ever have made! Not only was basketball so much fun but the friends and the relationships you make are irreplaceable. Every team will have arguments and not always get along 100% but I truly believe we have something special as a team and for the freshman I think that you will really enjoy getting to know everyone and creating the relationships that will last a lifetime.  I have had quite a busy summer so far. I have been babysitting for two families and working at an ice cream place but I got to quit that yesterday which was awesome bc it was just a waste of time!! I have been working out and hanging out with my friends and boyfriend and enjoying my family as well. I recently just got home from a two week trip to Italy so that was an experience of a lifetime! My family moved at the beginning of the year last year from the house that I have lived in my whole life and it was one of the hardest things to do but now I am finally feeling at home again which is wonderful! I am very excited to come back to school and see everyone and meet everyone who is joining our team! I hope everyone enjoys their last month in a half of summer and I will see you all soon!!

Sunday, July 6, 2014

Hey everyone! My names Geena Gabriel ( they call me G) and I will be a freshman at BW. I went to high school at Pymatuning Valley (where Jon York went) and I live in Andover, OH. I played soccer, basketball, and track and choosing basketball for my college sport wasn't an easy decision! It's crazy to think that I'm a freshman in college and just graduated high school!! It feels like yesterday I was just so nervous to even begin high school. haha. I am really excited to become apart of this team and I am glad to be a yellowjacket! I plan on majoring in Exercise Science and to minor in Coaching! I just love being around sports so i feel this would be the best option for me! My summer so far has been very hectic. From going to the gym, spending time with my family, getting things ready for my vacation to Outer Banks!! and ready for my open house is just crazy! But managing all that is what keeps me going because i just HATE being bored! haha. But on July 28th i get to go out and visit my dad in Colorado, i barely get to see him do to our busy schedules so im really excited to go!!! The only bad part is is that i have to fly there all by myself and i've never flown on a plane before! But overall im really excited to begin school and just to get to know everyone on the team. Im looking forward to this upcoming season and i hope everyone has a safe summer!!

No blog, no ring *insert side eye emoji face*

Hello and happy Monday everyone! My name is Janaya Feaster and I will be a junior this upcoming school year. That is so crazy to think about. It seems like just yesterday I was a freshman getting to know the team and blogging my first blog. It's amazing how quick time passes. Anywho, like I said, I will be a junior and I am number 2 on the court! I am an Exercise Science major and Spanish minor, for now. I went to Archbishop Hoban high school in Akron, Ohio, so, I'm not far from home at all. I have two lovely, crazy parents, Sam and Joan, whom I'm sure you all will meet sooner or later. I have a dog as well that I love oh so much and miss to pieces.
Well that's all you need to know about me. As for my summer, Alissa Munro and I are staying at Allyson Helleis' house with her family. They were kind enough to let us stay there for the summer months for free. Alissa and I share a room in the basement and let's just say there have been some crazy, fun, long nights. Things can get pretty cray after 10 o'clock. We are very entertaining and love to laugh so if you ever want to have some fun just come visit us ( we're also gonna be roomies this year) in Hamilton Apartment A. Our apartment will be so much nicer than Shekeiera and Allyson's *coigh cough*. I work at the school for our head Athletic Trainer, Drea. If you have not met her yet you need to very soon, she is seriously the best ever! But, I'm just a secretary kinda for her and I don't do much but watch tv or workout or nap haha don't tell anyone. I also work in the Packard center weight room. I sit and monitor the weight room for two hours, so that's pretty boring, huh? Yeah so I basically get paid to do nothing and I'm not complaining because it's good money!
Currently I am at the airport in Chicago getting ready to board my plane to Nebraska. My boyfriend plays football at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, #90, and so I'm headed there for 2 and a half weeks to visit him. As I was walking to my gate in the airport, I saw Megan Rapinoe. For those of you who don't know who she is, she's on the United States women's National Soccer Team. I, so mad though I didn't take a picture with her or get her autograph. I was so nervous I was gonna miss my flight that wasn't scheduled to leave for another 2 hours. So basically I suck and I blew my chance at meeting her and possibly becoming best friends with her and then meeting Alex Morgan and Kelly O'Hara (who are also members of the USWNT) and becoming best friends with them. Good job Janaya! But other than that great experience nothing else exciting has happened. Well, my plane is now boarding and I don't want to miss it, as much fun as that would be to stay in Chicago. I'm headed to good old Nebraska! Until next time my blogging friends, until next time.

Hello all I know everyone's been patiently waiting for this time to come! Well it's here I'm finally blogging I'm shekiera aka Diva aka keeks and I am a junior. My major is sports management and my minor is business management . It's kind of weird saying I'm a junior but I guess time flies when you're having fun playing basketball with your besties! Okay I actually don't like any of them lol I joke I love them. I just recently met some of the freshman and they are pretty cool, I mean not as cool as the junior class but no one really is! However, I am excited too spend 7 WHOLE NEVER ENDING MONTHS WITH THEM. They fit in perfectly with us. I can tell they are a talented group of girls and I'm excited to see what the season has in store for us. BACK TO BACK LEAGUE CHAMPIONS AND NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! WOOT WOOT

Well I'm tired of talking about that so here's some things about me I like too shop and talk about shopping and think about shopping and shop online the bad thing is I never have any money so basically I'm just a window shopper sometimes. I haven't done much this summer because I work all the time. Which is good so I don't have too be a window shopper anymore. I do workout well I run and I do core lifting isn't my favorite thing to do. I play pick up games and I also referee summer league games which is pretty awesome. At the beginning of summer I did go to Florida for 2 weeks with my boyfriend and that was fun. After that trip summer pretty much went downhill Lolz! I'm running out of things too talk about. Ohh our coaching staff is pretty cool coach bell is my favorite (no offense to the other coaches) but she likes all the things I like we're like sisters but I got all the color and she didn't get any haha  baileys like an older brother who you tell on too mom because he's a bully coach Harrer is mom and Galiger is our grandpa who is so funny , and the team is like my other sisters,so we're like a big happy family!! I will admit I miss seeing the team everyday and joking and laughing with them all the time in the locker room. I miss the season as well although practices were tough and competitive it was fun,but I do not miss condition because it's torture! Well I'm about too nap because it's currently raining and that's the best time to nap I can't wait too see everyone on campus.. Everyone is welcome to visit Allison and I at Hamilton apartments on campus because it's going to be so pretty! LOVE YOU ALL XOXO KEEKS/DIVA/SHEKIERA
NUMBER 11 ON THE COURT NUMBER ONE IN YOUR HEARTS
Wassup everyone!!haha I'm Clara for those of you who don't know me and I'm gonna be honest, this blogging isn't really my thing...I'm much better at making in-depth tweets on twitter and posting stuff most people don't even understand.haa...my teammates already know all about that. But I'm going to be a sophomore this year and I can't believe how blessed I feel for giving college ball a chance...one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life probably...which might not say much, but eyy, it is what it is.haha I gotta say the best part of BW basketball isn't even the basketball part of it as messed up as that sounds.lol...what I mean is that the relationships and friendships you make because you play basketball is much more worthy to the experience than dribbling and shooting a ball is.

This summer has been great for taking some time off after my first year of college and enjoying my family and job...I work at Walgreens which is at the corner of happy and healthy just so everyone knows.haa Can't believe it's basically July...time flies that's for sure...as much as I love being home and enjoying old friends, I really just ache to be back at BW.

My oldest sister Rachael just got married last weekend so they're in Punta Cana right now sipping margaritas prolly and enjoying the sunny beaches...if I could be on a beach right now that'd probably be my summer made.

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer though!! Can't wait for August to be back in action in the 440!!!! :D

Peace my friends,
Clemmon

What Shari, Pup, and Erin said!

Hello again all my loyal readers. For the newbies, my name is Alissa and I'll be a junior this year. Just like everyone else, I'm feeling a bit old and I'm very much looking forward to meeting the incoming freshmen. I've met a few and they seem like they fit really well with the team. I'm majoring in exercise science with minors in athletic coaching and spanish. After I graduate I want to go to grad school for strength and conditioning and try to get a grad assistant job to start getting into coaching. My ideal place to go would be Tennessee, or anywhere except Ohio. Anyways...this summer has been pretty repetitive. Work, workout, sleep, repeat. I work in the weight room at the Packard center on campus and I lifeguard at a bunch of different pools around the area. Basically I get paid to sit on my butt.

Basically the only thing worth telling about my summer so far that wouldn't put you to sleep is kids camp. Exciting right? This week we put on a camp for high school kids and then we had younger kids after. Only 4 high schoolers came so it was a lot more personal. On the last day, a freshman bet me $20 that she could make a half court shot. Of course I agreed because there's no way right? Wrong. She made it on the first try. Banked it right in then laughed in my face. Kids these days man....no respect. The younger kids camp was a lot more fun - mostly because those kids didn't cost me any money. I was obviously everyone's favorite coach -- especially the 8th grade girls. I mean....do you blame them *sassy girl emoji*

Okay story times over. Until next time my friends.

Gabrielle Grace Vitez

Well hello world! My name is Gabrielle Vitez and I am going to be a sophomore next year! Crazy to think about I already finished a year or college! It wasn't easy and there was a lot of obstacles to overcome but I'm back and ready gooo :) this summer has been pretty crazy! Being a sandwich artist really can take a toll on your body sometimes! Every shift at my wonderful subway on Brecksville Road in Richfield Ohio is very unpredictable!(feel free to visit at any time though!!!!) well my mama has recently had her right knee replaced so I have also been taking on the job of being her at home nurse! Never been a dull moment this summer! Between work, helping my family, and working out/getting in the gym I get to spend time with my good ole farmer boyfriend Brian. He recently got pigmy goats and there are seriously so entertaining! I could sit in the Luther barn for hours playing with all their animals :) hahahaha well my life is an open book so I never really know what to say when I blog so I guess that will be all this time! Cannot wait to see everyone's beautiful faces again!

WHAT PUP AND SHARI SAID! :)

Hello readers, I am Erin, or E, or Erwin, which ever you prefer.  I am depressed to say that I am going to be a junior because it makes me feel old.  I feel like I was just an incoming freshman.  I cannot wait for the year and the season to start though. So... a little about me.  For those of you that do not know, I am an Athletic Training and Secondary Math Education major.  I get to live with my two best friends this year, Ally "Pup" Dehart, and a former teammate Steph.  Feel free to come over for our weekly mac and cheese nights!  Or every Tuesday for Pretty Little Liars, we get into that show.

Well this summer I have spent lots of time selling fruits and vegetables at the fruit stand where I work.  Also, lots of lifting, shooting, and playing basketball this summer.  In addition, I am "lucky" enough to take two summer classes, Personal Wellness and 20th Century World History.  They're basically the highlight of the summer right now....  They make me look forward to seeing my teammates/best friends in the fall!  This week actually I get to be a big girl and got to the National Athletic Training Association Conference in Indianapolis for a few days with some of my fellow classmates.  I am very excited for that little vacation and to learn a lot.  (I am kind of a nerd).

I am looking forward to a season filled with hard work, fun times, and great success! :)

Can't wait to meet my new teammates and reunite with the greatest people on Earth!!

Love,
Erin Allen #14

What Shari Said. (LOLZ)

Hello friends, family, first-timers, fellow feline-lovers, anddddd ffffff ummmm... fabulous people? Sure! My name is Ally "Pup" Dehart for those of you who may not know me. I will be a j... j.... JUNIOR! WUT! That seriously blows my mind. Like *boom* mind is blown. I'm old. Anyways... I am studying communication disorders in hopes of becoming a Speech-Language Pathologist someday woo! That's pretty much it school-wise. As for this summer, I'm working my third summer at my daddy's office in order to make some cash flow in order to tend to my serious food and concert addiction. Something the new one's will quickly learn about me haha. But super bummed I haven't been able to meet all of the new freshies yet! I've been lucky enough to meet two, both of which were lovely people, and I'm very excited to meet the rest! So until we are able to meet, and for all the lucky readers reading this, I will give you some basic need-to-know facts about me in the school-style name spell.. so here it goes.

Awkward :(
Loves One Direction.
Like seriously, I LOVE them.
Young, wild, and free. LOL jk I'm old, pretty boring, and if by free you mean cheap then YES!

PUMPED ABOUT THIS SEASON
Unfortunately slow eater. Always last :( Then I try to keep up and get a stomach ache. Ugh.
Proud Steeler fan. BOO BROWNIES.

Destined to be Mrs. Harry Styles.
Enthusiast of musicals. And also a fan of Coach Gallagher's musical t-shirt selection.
Hardly ever sleeps at night. I seriously just stay up because I like to. Except for naps of course.
Adore nerds. They're so precious. Like the people, not the candy.
Really enjoys thrifting, eating, napping, laughing (except when I do my ugly laugh) and walking on
     my hands.
Take buzzfeed quizzes like everyday. They are seriously addicting.

HA okay so those are probably pretty lame, but it gives you some idea of what to expect from me! I'm looking forward to this season so much! I miss all my homies and can't wait to welcome in our new teammates so I can have more homies :] So before I go, I will leave you with this final thought...

How many hair styles could Harry Styles style if Harry Styles could style hair?

Very truly yours,

Ally Puppy Dehart

ps. I would add a fun picture but I don't really know how.

No blog = No rings..

Hi yall,

My name is Shari Mangas and I will be a senior this upcoming school year at BW. It's crazy to think that 4 years ago I was getting ready to type my first blog as a BW yellowjacket... now this is my last first of the year blog. I apologize for the lack of blogs and the lateness of this one, it's been quite an eventful and busy summer thus far. I figured I needed to type this as soon as possible because I would love to have my OAC championship ring that is being held hostage until this post gets done. So here it is coach :)

Anyways, as mentioned before, my summer is quite stressful and busy. I currently work with Allyson Helleis, number 5, at the athletic facilities here at BW. We do a lot of mowing, picking up trash and mowing some more. We also work with a 2 time National Champion, Kevin Johnson, or as everyone calls him, KJ. After work gets out at 330, we head on over to the rec and get a nice lift and workout in and sometimes play with the guys. And no, they usually don't take it easy on us; we're all athletes and hate losing. I'm also an assistant manager at a new athletic apparel company called KOHR; so my nights are usually based around those meetings and modeling pictures and ordering inventory. You all should check us out and order some gear, I promise it's lovely stuff :)  http://www.kohrsports.com/

Outside of basketball and work I have been trying to spend a lot more of my time going home, which is Leipsic, Ohio and approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes from campus. My sister just had a beautiful daughter, Adria Rose, and I know during the school year I won't be able to make the trip home as often because I'll be extra busy finishing up my last two semesters of college with an internship and basketball going on. I'm a Sport Management major and I love everything about BW and this program! We hope to continue our excellence this year on and off the court while inhabiting a new lockerroom which I can't wait to see when it is all completed!!

Oh how sweet it is..

As you all have known and heard, we are still dancin'!! This past week we traveled to York, PA which was about a 6.5 hour bus ride from good ole Berea, Ohio. The trip down wasn't too bad at all! We left on thursday morning, which caused us to have to miss classes thursday and friday; darn ;)  Many people had to take midterms and exams a day or two earlier and some even took them on the bus trip; this being a true testament to us being student-athletes!!

64 Teams
The first game against Lebanon Valley was a success. After a few "first-round"jitters, we got going and started to play like we are used to playing! After a solid defensive effort, we ended the 40 minutes of playing victorious with a final score of 66-48.After the game, and after everyone showered up, we stuck around to watch the first half of the York/LaRoche game to see who we would have to battle against on Saturday. After watching a few minutes, I knew we would have our hands full if York would win, and they did.

32 Teams
After shoot around in the morning, everyone was pretty excited to go out there and play. After all, we were the under dogs, the team that was suppose to lose, being 21-6 and playing at #10 York's home court, no one believed in us. But we did; and that's all that mattered on Saturday.
When the game started, we soon realized that the fouls weren't going how we "thought" they should be and we quickly had to gather ourselves and remind ourselves to be mentally tough. With just under 3 minutes to go, Larry went to the line to shoot foul shots and Aud and I stood back and just smiled... and realized if we did what we do for the last 2:55 of the game, we would be heading to the Sweet 16! With a crazy and scary ending to the game, and another solid team defensive performance (minus bow girl going off in the first half) we ended victorious with the final score of 67-52!

16 Teams
Facing the undefeated Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday is our next step. It's going to be a battle; we know that. Playing on their home court leaves us as the under dogs again and I couldn't be more excited that all of our dreams are coming true!
I don't know what the future hold for this team; but what I do know, is that Baldwin Wallace is one of 16 teams left in the nation and no one on the outside believes that we can keep going...
That's what makes this journey all the more SWEET!

Never underestimate the heart of an underdog #RiseAbove

I hope that you all can tune in on Friday to watch/listen to us play and hopefully advance to the Elite 8! I want to thank everyone for their endless support throughout this entire season and I hope that we keep on putting on a good show for y'all!!

God Bless,

Look Everyone, We're Dancing!

After a heart breaking loss to Capital in the semifinals of the OAC playoffs, we all thought it was over.  We had a one in 50 chance to receive an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament.  Monday, March 3, 2014, at precisely 2:30 in the afternoon, our team received the greatest news, we aren't done playing yet!  We received an at-large bid into the tournament along with three other OAC teams, which makes four teams from our conference going to the tournament.  The first round begins at five in York, Pennsylvania and we play Lebannon Valley.

We have felt what it is like to lose and think your season is over with.  We do not want to experience that feeling again anytime soon.  We have been given an amazing opportunity that we need to capitalize on this weekend.  This team has great potential and we all really enjoy playing with each other.  I cannot imagine another group of people I would love to experience this with.  We head to York, Pa Thursday morning and I cannot wait!

Here's to a long run in the tournament!

AWWWWW JACKETS!

Just the beginning

Wow. Just wow. We are OAC SEASON CHAMPS.

Just let that sink in for a second.

Ok, now that you've rapped your head around that lets talk about tonight!
It's tournament time! We got a by for the first round so we get to start directly at the semi-finals which take place tonight!! We are playing Cap at home! This is about to be crazy!!! If you are anywhere in the area I would advise getting in your car right now and coming to Berea! We are taking the first steps in making history tonight and having a lot of fun while doing it.

I am so proud of my team and all the hard work and passion they have put into the game this year. I have never been apart of a team so passionate and focused on our goals, yet still so fun loving and chill. I can not wait to see how far we go. And one things for sure: I wouldn't want to go anywhere without these amazing teammates and coaches. Thank you to all our fans and everyone who believes in us.

This is a chance that we had taken from us last year, this year we take nothing for granted. Every moment, every game, even every sound of that annoying buzzer, we cherish as a team. Tonight is just the beginning of a new adventure!

Hey everyone!!

I hope you all have stayed as warm as you can during this crazy winter. The weather currently has a fever because it's been warmer than 20 degrees the past couple of days!

Anyways, I am writing this knowing we have only one more regular season game. It is crazy thinking that this season is almost done. It feels like just last week we were on our last day of pre-season. This year has been like a roller coaster, with many highs and some lows. It has been exciting, exhausting, fun, sad, and hard. But most importantly, it has been memorable. This team has experienced more than any other team I have been on. We have had the most ridiculous fun and entertaining moments, but we have also had moments where we have had each others backs. That's what a team is all about, right? Picking each other up when they are down? This team does that on a daily basis. All of my teammates mean something to me, and I am thankful for every single one of them. I am blessed to be a part of the Yellow Jacket Family.

ONE MORE GAME. (regular season that is). Just one. I know we will give it our all for our seniors :)

Time flies when you're having fun

Hey everyone!

I'm writing this in our last week of regular season!  It seems like yesterday we were getting up at 530 AM to run some sprints.  Now we are in our final week of the season, 2 games...6 days...  This is such an awesome but bittersweet fact.  Awesome because we are in control of our own destiny during these last 2 games, bittersweet because I never want the season to end.  We are in control of our destiny because if we win the next two games we stay on top the league going into the OAC tournament! We just have to play our game and focus on all the things that we do well.  If we do that, then we will be first in the regular season! I cannot wait to see what this week brings us! I don't want to get too far ahead of myself though, so our next game (Wednesday) is where the focus lies.  We can think about winning the league, senior day, and all of that starting on Thursday!

On another note, I have an internship with Camp Cheerful in Strongsville.  A big part of the internship is coaching a school-aged wheelchair basketball team.  I must say that the 12 kids that I coach have impacted my life in countless of ways.  The fact that they take their disabilities, throw them aside, and find a way to be competitive and active astounds me. We just had a home game and I was so glad that people got to see them in action!

Well....today we have a late practice, so I am going to try and get a nap in before practice!
Bye for now!

Worst Snowday Ever

This message has been brought to you by the number one export of Lake Erie: Snow and 5 degree temperatures! So today at this exact moment we should have been starting our warm-up routine for the 3 pm game vs Capital, but it was postponed to 7 tonight and now has been officially moved to 3 pm tomorrow.  As much as I love the extra time to relax and do some homework I was pretty pumped to play Capital, and needless to say, am pretty upset that we aren't playing today.  It is hard to keep the excitement bottled up, but I've got to do it for just one more day.  The good thing is that I hear Monday and Tuesday are supposed to have bad weather too so hopefully we might get a day or two off! Fingers crossed.  Wear your pajamas inside out. Flush ice cubes down the toilet.  All that good stuff.

In other news we went to Buca DiBeppo for dinner last night and then to Camp Cheerful.  We thought we were just going to go to Camp Cheerful but Coach surprised us by taking us to Buca first (yay thanks Coach)!  So yeah everyone who has blogged on time got to get dessert.  Which was prettttttty delicious.  I still have 'til tomorrow to blog, so I narrowly made the dessert cut.  The raspberry cheesecake was on point. :)  And then at Camp we helped the campers set up their beds and make crafts with them.  I made this pretty sweet giraffe with the most adorable girl named Marissa.  We called her Mo-Mo squared, like the Marissa on our team.  We then sat around the fireplace and sang songs.  One girl Katie sang Over The Rainbow, and it was amazing.  So overall it was a pretty good time.  It's always fun to go to Camp Cheerful and it really makes you appreciate everything you have been blessed with!

Stay Classy San Diego!

-Larry

Lesson #1: No matter how polite you are, NEVER talk to the refs

Howdy followers!

The answer is no, you didn't read the title wrong. I learned a very, very valuable lesson on Wednesday; never talk to the refs. Even if you do use your manners. Especially when you're already angry and in the heat of the moment. Raising you voice isn't the best idea either. As you can assume, I received a technical in Wednesday's game at Heidelberg. Not one of my finer moments I might say. But to clear things up, it wasn't your typical cursing or throwing of the ball. After an and-1 call, I looked at the ref and said call them both ways, please (a little louder than just a friendly conversation). Nonetheless, I learned very quickly to never, EVER talk to the refs again. Luckily that didn't effect the outcome of the game and we left a very hostile environment with a W!

Last night the team went to Bucca to eat before we headed over to Camp Cheerful. Food is very important this team and whenever we can get around food, watch out. It's a free for all. Coach was even generous enough to order dessert and so there were about 4 different desserts rotating around; cheesecake, chocolate cake, apple cinnamon stuff, and last, but not least, Tiramisu. Tiramisu is the best creation, to me and Pup that is. We got to share the entire family size dessert to ourselves. Actually, she ate about 3/5 of it and I ate the other 2/5.

Hopefully everyone can come out tomorrow, SUNDAY, to see us play against our hated rivals, Capital. Because of the snow, our game got rescheduled for 3 oclock on Sunday. The season, thus far, has been pretty decent. Tomorrow we start the second round of the OAC and hopefully finish as well as we started! I just want to thank all of the continuous support we get from the community members, students, family members and staff!! It is greatly appreciated by each and every one of us!!

Stay warm and stay safe!! We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!!
Aww Jackets!!

This year has been a really new experience for me and I have loved it.  My teammates are so amazing and I wouldn't want to spend all my time with anyone else but them.  I can't wait to see what is in store for us in our future!  I hope to keep seeing tons of support the rest of the year and lets go kick Caps butt tonight!!! :)

THIS IS THE BEST WEEK EVER!

Hey everybody!

Contrary to popular belief the first week back has been AWESOME! First off, other students came back on campus so we have our wonderful fans back to watch us during our games.  On Tuesday, we had the JV game against Walsh and Coach Bailey told us we could get chalupas last year if we scored 100 on them.  Well to start off our fantastic week we scored 103 points.  Chalupas here we come!  Now the greatness doesn't stop there! During practice that day we got FT4D (free throws for dinner), which is where each person has to make a free throw and we did it!  But again, the greatest does not stop there!  We played the previously ranked number one John Carroll, but we knocked them off.  We had amazing fans come out and support us during our big game.  It was an amazing experience to be apart of.  Everyone was excited and ready to play a great game.  Now, you would think that is quite a great week but my story only goes up to Wednesday, it only gets better.  On Thursday, we got ready for our next game against Muskie.  Friday, we celebrated our FT4D and had an amazing dinner at Moosehead.  It was awesome, Coach G even made fun of Allyson, twice! Team bonding is always fun because our team gets along very well with one another.  A big thanks goes out to Coach Harrer for the amazing dinner!  And after dinner me, Ally, and Steph got sweet teas to finish off a great meal.  Now on to Saturday!  We went to Muskie and dominated.  We ended an amazing week with a solid win against a good team.  A win on the road is always a challenge but we showed up determined to get the win.  Now ladies, let's make this next week even better!

Love always!

ps. A special shoutout goes to all of our fans who support us during our games, it really means a lot to each and everyone of us!

Our Year

Hello everybody! I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and a Happy New Year! I definitely enjoyed time with my family but I was excited to get back onto the court and continue chasing that ring! Just like everybody else has said, we are ready for Otterbein tomorrow and I cannot wait to get another W :) To switch it up a bit, I'm going to give you readers ten reasons why you should choose us Yellow Jackets to win the OAC! :)

1. We have the most competitive team between coaches and 19 players.
2. Like coach always says.. "pick your poison" because we have three people in double digits right now and two with 9.8 or 9.9, so basically we're unstoppable
3. We're deeper on the bench than any team in the OAC, which again makes us hard to guard
4. Between Alissa and Shari, no guard has a better outside shot than those two.
5. Our coaches spend hours watching film and us players take about an hour to go over scout to make sure we're prepared
6. Since the beginning of season we have not had a bad practice, we come prepared to get better everyday
7. As a team, we set goals and standards for ourselves and each other and everybody remains accountable to them.
8. There are always girls coming early to practice or staying after to work on their game; it's never just come to practice right on time and leave as quickly as possible. We put in extra time willingly and we're there to get better.
9. The ban was tough on the girls last year, making us want to play even better and harder this year.
10. Basically, we just want it more than everybody else.

I hope this helps you readers believe in us and see how badly we want to win! Well, until next time!
Megs :)

New Year, Same Team

Hello my little Lady Jacket fans! Alissa Munro here, comin' at ya from the new year. I hope everyone's Christmas and New Year has been one for the books - I know mine was :)

This has been the first week of practice back from our break, and thankfully no one has died. We came back and picked up where we left off - be ready for a show against Otterbein tomorrow. We just had a friendly (for the most part) intrasquad scrimmage to get back in the game flow. It was the sophomores vs. everyone else. I know you're thinking what we were -- the sophomore squad won right? Wrong. But it was a close game! It would have been nice to have proven once and for all that our class is the best, but there will be more opportunities. Coach Bailey was our ref and he basically gave the game to the other team. I guess it's just sophomore squad against the world . No worries though, no hard feelings.......

Anyways, our days are pretty boring here. Just so you can see how boring, here's the daily schedule:
11:00 - wake up, eat
12:30 - see if Coach Bell changed her hair again
1:00 - practice
4:00 - eat lunch, then take a nap
6:00 - wake up, eat dinner
8:00 - watch movies and make fun of Megan

There you go folks - an inside look inside the crazy life of BW women's basketball. I look forward to seeing you all at our upcoming games. Come say hi!

Ring Chasing

Hello followers!

I'm Allyson Helleis, a sophomore that has not bogged in awhile but I'm back!! There is so much that has happened since the last time I blogged! We are currently still on winter break, but we have a huge conference game tomorrow against Otterbein, that we have been preparing for this past week in practice. For having a week off and coming back to a full week of practice I was rather impressed with the team and how well we have been practicing, our determination this year is something I've never experienced before and is honestly thrilling!

Thus far, the season has been going extremely well. We have a winning record of 8-2 and our schedule has been pretty tough. The team has been playing united and it truly feels like we are a family. I am looking forward to see what the rest of the season has to offer for us, especially because we are working our butts of to get that championship ring for the OAC.

I think I speak for the whole team when I say I don't want school to start anytime soon! How much better does it get than sleeping, eating, playing basketball and hanging out with your teammates and watching Netflix everyday for about a month. Not having to worry about classes is definitely an amazing feeling!

I hope everyone had a happy holiday season and a great New Year as we are looking to bring in the New Year with our first win of 2014 against Otterbein!

Until next time,

Allyson Helleis  #5
