True Life: I'm Megan Pillsbury

Heeeeey! My name is Megan Pillsbury but better known as "PILLS!" I am going to be a freshman at BW & I couldn't be more excited! I plan to major in Graphic Design and minor in Philosophy. I live in a small town called Vandalia which is just a few minutes North of Dayton, Ohio.I have been playing basketball since 1st grade and then started AAU in fifth grade and it has been nonstop ever since! My parents are Janice & Owen Pillsbury, I have a 22yr old brother named Evan, and three best friends named Shannon, Emily, and Lindsey! It is definetly going to be weird leaving them but I am up for anything. I love meeting new people and I am extremely adventurous. I am stoked to meet everyone on the team!



Heeeelllllooooo There! My name is Shannon Miller, I am one of the best friends and also featured in this video. Megan and I have been inseperable for 13 years now! She has been one of the most important people in my life for longer than I can remember. She has always been there for me, she is the type of friend that will always have your back even if she doesn't really agree with what you are doing she'll still support you. When we're together there's never a dull moment, we say/do crazy things and are always laughing about something. Megan, even though you won't be down the street from me any longer I'll still be back here in good 'ol v-town waiting for you to come home! Miss you already sugar dumplin' have fun and stay classy!




Howdy! I'm Emily Davis, also a featured friend of Megan's! I moved to our school system in 6th grade and MP was my first best friend! She's one of the most down-to-earth people you'll ever meet! Besides myself of course... which is why we make such a good team! We've had CRAZY times together, if you want to try something out of your comfort zone, Meg's the best partner! She pushes everyone to be themselves and to never care what people think, she loves you for you! After 6 glorious years of friendship, now I have to say good bye to this lil' mama! Hi girls! Hopefully everyone's summer is going well, mine sure is. I'm Jess and I will be a junior next year. I recently just changed my major from Accounting to Healthcare Management so I am hoping things will work out great and I will enjoy the switch. I plan to go to nursing school after I graduate and be an RN in the emergency room, that has always been my dream. I am from North Canton Hoover and I come from a very competitive, winning program, which I am thankfun for because it really helped transition me from high school to college basketball. With that I am a very competitive person and I hate losing.

Lets see, I'm obsessed with DWade, so yes I am a MIAMI HEAT fan...next year is the year, sorry Cavs fans! I love to have a good time and have fun in everything I do, so prepare for a great year starting in August! I love to shop. Catherine and I are known as the girly girls of the team. She introduced me to a motto when I joined the hive and I live by it now too..."You have to look good to play good" dont forget it! Two more things I am obsessed with is high heels and dresses.. I have a gizillllion pairs of shoes, and probably over 20 dresses in my closet. But anyways, I am looking forward to having a great year this season and I can't wait to meet all of you. SUMMER!!!!

Hello Everyone!

My name is Nancy Coulter and I am going to be a senior this year!! Although I will be a senior in school, I will only be a junior in basketball, yes I know your thinking what??It's true! This past season I tore my ACL in December and had my surgery January 11th, 2011. By just making the red shirt cut off of seven games, I will be able to get the season back and play my fifth year. This leads me to my major, which is health and physical education. I plan to be a teacher and basketball coach! :) Conveniently I have to be here an extra year for my major, therefore, I can play my red shirt year! Other awesome information about me is that I have a younger sister who just turned 14 in May and a fantastic mother Patty. This summer I'm working at Domtar ( it's a factory that makes printer paper) where I am working wonderful 12 hr shifts... lol but loving my paycheck! Along with that, I am continuing my physical therapy while home, which is still going GREAT!

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer and working hard for this upcoming season! I am really excited to meet all of the incoming freshman as well :)

Hey everyone!

My name is Jen Calhoon and I'm going to be a junior this year studying Communication Disorders. I play in the guard position on the Brown Squad. It's quite an honor to be on that team as so everyone agrees. I am currently working at a catering company this summer so I'm trying to roll in the dough. My parents are divorced so at the majority of the games you'll see my mom Elaine and stepfather Howie. I'll be staying at Hamilton Apartments pretty much with the rest of the upperclassmen so I can't wait for everyone to hang out together! Pasta dinners every friday night before games on saturday :)

I can't wait for the smoothie bar in the rec, I'm secretly a genius but I just don't like to show it, annnnnd I can't wait to meet all the newbies!!

Two Extremes

This is always the time of year with a wide variety of emotions for me. There is the sadness of saying goodbye to seniors and yet the excitement of young players with a desire to improve. There is the disappointment of losing extremely good players in the recruiting wars and yet the elation of finding out I will get the opportunity to coach an extremely good player the next 4 years when a recruit says they want to be a Yellow Jacket. There is the joy that comes in a beautiful spring day and the "blahs" that come with more snowflakes! There is the fatigue that comes at the end of a long year as well as the joy of hearing returning players talk about the goals they have for the future. In less than 4 weeks we will be on summer break. Time has flown by once again! The WBCA convention always gets me thinking about the next year and how many things I can teach better, how to build a team better, how to coach better. Still I wonder how will we replace Amanda and Ali and be competitive again next season. It seems like 6 months instead of less than 2 since we practiced and played. I hope our team uses this time wisely and works hard to get better. If our players each get better, with the new players coming in, we have a chance to be very, very good. If our players coast and only do enough to get by, it will be a long season. Unfortunately in Divison 3 I can't do anything but encourage and hope in the off-season! I just hope the sting of a below average year this past season eats at our returning players enough to make them want to make changes!

Tis the Season

It's spring time..you know what that means, FUN. Unfortunately, spring break is over already, but nonetheless it was awesome. I got to sleep in every single day and was stress free of school work. This past Monday we had our first open gym. It was so nice to play with the girls again and start working towards what we want next year's team to accomplish. We had enough for 3 teams and everyone played hard, what a great way to start off the 2011-12 season :)

St. Patty's Day is tomorrow and I think it is safe to say we have one particular girl who will celebrate..Megan Frisina. I don't know for sure if she is Irish, but she has red hair. Hopefully this holiday wil do her well! Speaking of holidays, April Reign is only a month away and not to mention my birthday falls on that Saturday. I am so excited to compete as are all the GDI girls. We plan to make a better appearance this year.. #winning is our goal. So the practices begin, not screwing around ladies, let's get to work.

However with all this fun we have planned for spring semester, I can tell our team is still focused on getting better for next year. I've seen most of the girls in the rec center working out and keeping in shape. It is nice to know how much each player cares about this program and what they are willing to do... it takes a little more to be a yellow jacket right?

SPRING!!

Well unfortunately our season ended early this year, with a loss in the first round of the OAC tournament. I just want to tell the seniors Amanda and Ali, thank you for being great leaders this year and for all the hard work that they put in for our program. It really takes a lot of character to play college basketball for four years, to be a yellow jacket, and to do it well! It was great to get to play with the both of you. :)
On the other hand, spring is coming!! I will be very excited when the sun continues to shine and melt all the snow away. Spring break is next week and I can not wait for the break to go home and see my family! Also, for those of you wondering, my rehab is going fantastic and I am continuing to work hard so I can be 100 percent!
Everyone keep working hard on their school work, hang in there we are almost done!

Yellow Jacket Pride Forever!

Yesterday was a tough loss. We ended our season in the first round of the OAC tournament against John Carroll. It was not the ending we all wanted whatsoever. I first would like to thank our seniors. Ali and Amanda has tremendous careers and I was only so fortunate to not only be their teammate but also one of their great friends. That is one of the greatest things about college basketball, it's not how many wins you get or how many points you score but the friendships that will last a lifetime. I could never picture my life without college basketball. The loss that we had last night will only make the underclassmen work harder in the off season. This could be a blessing in disguise. I give credit to all 19 girls who were on our team. This season every single person worked their hardest and always gave 111% whether it was in a drill, game or running sprints. I am so fortunate to have worked with these 18 young ladies. This yellow jacket team will never be the same and our memories will never be replaced. I love every single of one my teammates and would never want to change anything about our team. I only wish the best to Amanda and Ali and I know that they will be successful in anything that comes their way. To everyone else we all had a tremendous season and everyone stepped up !! :)

As I'm sure most of you know, we suffered our toughest loss of the year last night to John Carroll. It was an abrupt end to a successful season and I don't think anyone was ready for the ride to be over. With that said, the loss last night in no way portrays the season that we had. 5 months ago we started preseason, and from the first morning workout through the last minutes of the game last night, we gave all that we had in order to help better our team. We were a team this year with a lot of heart and that showed not only in our 18 wins but each and every day since that first workout. Everyone worked extremely hard toward our ultimate goal of getting better each time we stepped on the court, and we certainly reached that goal. All 19 girls on the team pulled together, no matter their role, and did their part to make sure that we got better each day, and in that regard we succeeded. We will never have this same exact group of girls again, and I am so grateful that I was able to be a part of it. To our seniors, Ali and Schroeder, thank you so much for what you have done for this program in your 4 years. You both worked extremely hard and have certainly left your mark on BW basketball. You guys will be missed so much next year. I also wanted to thank everyone who came to our games and followed our team throughout the year. We are all so grateful for the level of support that we were given, and it helped to make the season one to remember. The loss is still fresh now, but I know I will always be able to look back and remember all of the different components, on and off the court, that made this year so special. "19 strong, in glory and defeat"

Now this is not the end...

Well, last night was a rough one. We played John Carroll in the 1st round of the OAC tournament, and sadly, did not come out on top. This means that we are done for the season, and our seniors, Amanda and Ali, are done with BW basketball, forever. This is so sad because they worked so hard all season, and this is not how we planned to end the season. We worked through a lot of adversity this year (injuries, tough losses, etc) and I am so proud of how we worked though all that. So, I'm saying thanks to the seniors for a wonderful year, even though we are done a lot sooner than we planned.

On a different note, in two weeks I'm having surgery to hopefully fix the pain I've been having in my shoulder all year. I'm slightly nervous, but so excited that I am going to be able to lift and get stronger for next year now. I hated not being able to lift all season, because I love lifting and conditioning and all that. My favorite practices of the year were definitely the ones where we ran sprints, I may be weird, but it's all good.:)
